Yes, I grew up in a barrel! You are holding Fat Lizard Brewing Company’s barrel-aged Cake Break Imperial Stout. The batch was divided in four barrels after seven weeks of fermentation.
Fat Barrel Series 05: Clermont Bourbon Blend was aged in Jim Beam bourbon barrel for almost nine months.

The appearance is murky, deep dark brown. A neat cappuccino-colored lace ring adorns the top. The fragrance is fruity rather than vanilla-dominant. Interesting. I pick dark plum peel, coffee, raw licorice root and black malt.
Posh taste! Bourbon big time but not particularly soft. Not soft at all. Aggressive. Intensive deep barrel notes with an oaky slam, raw licorice root, rye malt and lofty alcohol.
The body is full but not enormous. Ends with huge bowls of barreled Bourbon. The mouthfeel is mellow, strong, deep, barrel aged, woody and alcoholic. Not entirely balanced but definitely a slow sipper.
