BA Snowbirds 7 – Almond Topped Molasses Maple Banana
13.6% Imperial Stout
We've done a number of Snowbirds variants over the years but this has to be our favorite. In addition to Snowbirds usual marcona almond, coconut, and cacao nibs we also add maple, molasses, wild thai bananas and some milk sugar. Very decadent. Aged in a mix of 14-22 month bourbon barrels.
Barrel aged

Kanelia riittää. Kiva banaani. Other Half kyllä saa tuon banaanin toimimaan näissä BA tynnyröidyissä impeissään. Pehmeä, runsas, paksu, bourbonia, makeutta, banaania ja runsaasti kanelia.

My second souvenir from D.C. My first Other Half souvenir was simply phenomenal. Interesting to see how this beauty performs. Enjoyed from the glass on our beach after the hot sauna and bbq. The dusk is getting darker, the bats are flying just above the water level capturing insects. Life is exceptionally good right now. The beer is opaque, matte deep black. Pours very thick and oily. The carbonation is astonishingly weak; on the other hand, the amount of adjuncts is enormous, no carbonation could survive here. No head on the surface. Just still. Whoaah! The nose gets thrilled from the very first sensation. Massive maple syrup, dark molten chocolate with bags of cacao nibs, toasted coconut flakes, toasted almonds, banana... The beauty of this beer is that whatever the flavors are listed on the label, one can certainly find them. Even cinnamon can be spotted in the air. The taste is sweet, even oversweet, and seriously thick. My goodness! I need a spoon! Not my average beer, for sure! Just adorable! I'm picking huge molten dark chocolate and abundant cacao nibs. Cinnamon is observable right in the beginning. Maple syrup enters the scene... Bourbon big time. Fruity, a hint of vanilla follows. Oh Lord, am I saved or what to have this in my glass? A nutty whisper behind, I can't say which nut it is but I know it's almond. I also fail to find toasted coconut flakes until very late. But all's well that ends well, they say. Then, a new kid on the block steps in: licorice. Pretty bold actually. Interestingly, I didn't get it in the fragrance. And banana. Of course, banana. Like bruised. Overripe, has even started fermentation. Overwhelming indeed! The body is simply vast. No doubt about it. Huge as never before. The finish turns the whole package somehow upside down. Or in reverse order. Like banana coming first, then dark chocolate ganache, then Bourbon etc. I mean that the banana came late in the actual taste but early in the end. And the same with the other components. Cinnamon was among the first variables in the beginning but now I have to even pinch my senses to the maximum to catch a hint of it in the finish. Beneath this snowy mantle cold and clean, the unborn grass lies waiting for its coat to turn to green; the snowbirds sing the song they always sing and speak to me of the aftertaste that will bloom again in spring. The mouthfeel is colossally full, round, sticky, chewy, viscous, adjuncted like there's no tomorrow. It's moderately spiced, warming, superdeep, rich, smooth and mouthcoating. Surely also gentle. And barrel aged. A liquid – well almost liquid – dessert. Final words: an extraordinarily seductive "beer". Is this a beer? I 🖤 the fact that most flavors can actually be recognized fairly easily but a few remain hidden though. Nevertheless, I would be cautious about putting a million and one adjuncts in one beer, especially when they don't make a solid cakey or desserty or whatever package. Now this is all over the place. More is more but you can't enjoy everything if there's no clear direction. That is the biggest difference to Bananaversary that earned full five stars from me. This has many qualifications that would earn an easy five but a couple of "negative" ones, too. Therefore, a perfect score remains unachieved now.
