All good things come to an end. So is it also with my D.C. souvenirs. This is my fourth and last Other Half delicacy. Its time is now. Opaque, totally jet black beer with suppressed carbonation builds a dark chocolatey head that climbs one finger high and melts quickly to a faint lace ring on the surface. The foamy crown leaves minuscule spots on the glass like burned sugar crystals. Copious Bourbon barrel gets loose in the air. Dark chocolate, cacao nibs and vanilla can also be easily identified. Furthermore, sugar roasted almond and chocolate muffin join the show after a bit of luring. Sweet licorice is shy and tries to escape my nose as long as possible but finally gets caught. Overall, an appealing set of components. I don't expect the taste profile to deviate significantly from the olfactory supply but I will surely verify it component by component. Okay. Are you ready? Open your safety belt. And jump. Bags of cacao nibs, dark chocolate – a tad molten –, chocolate muffin and vanilla start the fireworks. Bourbon is surprisingly lenient although the barrel notes give a woody hint to follow. Faintly roasted walnut, syrup, molasses and a timid coffeeish twinkle complete the enjoyment. The body is full. The finish is dark-chocolatey with Bourbon and barrel nuances. Most other elements also carry over to the end but not all. A hint of alcohol tries to signal its presence but with no big success. The mouthfeel is full, thick, somewhat sticky and chewy. Glues lips. It's seriously adjuncted, desserty and barrel aged. Also distantly alcoholic. Deep and rich. Beautifully warming. All these four OHB beers were amazing. Some were more amazing than others but, all in all, I'm glad I decided to carry them home. This was the last bottle. The chapter closes.
