Tonight I visited a performance by the United Ukrainian Ballet in the beautiful Amare dance theater in my home town The Hague. A bit of a home game for this dance company. Coming from different ballet and dance institutions all over Ukraine, they are united by the tragedy of war in the international city of peace and justice. They found refuge in the Royal Dutch Conservatory and were taken under the wing of a former prima ballerina of the Dutch National Ballet and the founders of a The Hague dance company.
Anyway, long story.... but this special dance operation, pun intended, is a perfect excuse to decant this imperial blueberry stout brewed by Ukrainian brewers in The Netherlands.
The beer is murky dark brown, near black, with a firm and persistent brown head.
Very thick. 🫐 galore, reminiscent of blueberry juice. Like a chocolate berry ice cream smoothie with a pleasant tardiness and a very sneaky nearly 13% abv.
As someone in the audience shouted after the entire ballet corps sung the Ukrainian national anthem as an encore: Слава Україні! 🇺🇦
