Without a doubt the most unique imperial stout I have tried to date. A glorious concoction of contemporary flavors creating a distinct, modern, yet timeless ale. Encased in a rubber-paraffin material to seal the freshness, the brew parades a streamy vantablack pour with a good soapy brown head and lovely lacing. Uber chocolate nutty boquet! Pronounced nose of toasted coconuts, almonds, macadamia nuts, and a whopping milky malt chocolate aroma. Probably the chocolatiest stout I have experienced. Not a lot of ester tones or licorice spice, modest oak notes and bourbon spirit underneath. The barrel aging perfectly did its job in consolidating all the elements, upfront complexity with a non daunting ascension of flavours. Upfront chomp of roasty chocolate followed by a generous gush of velvety caramel, sweet malty mid palate until finish. Subsides with plums, raisins, red wineyish fruity palate, some tannins from the barrel aging, and finally a second wave of nutty buttery goodness! At 9.5% ABV this brew packs a strong warming effect similar to scotch whiskeys. Sometimes I doubt if it was properly labeled in the first place. Remarkable twist in every sip demanding every attention to detail. Very enjoyable and interesting craft, never have I been bored as I threaded down and savored the last drop.
