Finally having a Duo with Ryan. Been a while. He brought this back from Back Pew Brewing, where he had it on tap and loved it.
Heavy like syrup on the pour. Strong malt aroma. Heavy and creamy texture. Flavor first brings a sweet molasses which is quickly followed by a heavy dark fruit, probably raisin. It then surrenders to a heavily charred double roasted malt. This char overwhelms and covers the previous flavors. As it travels into the finish, the char recedes somewhat giving into a deep roasted coffee with undertones of cocoa powder.
I enjoyed the complexity of the flavors taking turns but the lack of any effervescence and the 13 and 1/2% not participating in the experience left me unimpressed. Still good but not great.
