First, my grandson's not really drinking that beer. Did that just for show. Next, this is the final beer of this year's Clown Shoes " 12 Beers of Christmas ". We've done this three straight years, hopefully again next year.
Super high, really frothy head. Now to be patient. Hazy with a burnt orange color. Aroma has an orange citrus. Also has a touch of sweet malt. Texture is incredibly soft and gentle, much like a milk stout. Low on carbonation. Finish immediately became sweet, slides into a sourdough bread type of malt, then a citrusy orange peel. As the middle arrives, it becomes sour and tart with the orange peel becoming more pithy. The finish finally develops that IPA hop bitterness and the Belgian clove arrives.
What a complex beer. The effortless and smooth transitions from sweet malt to sour and then to a bitter IPA all while staying true to a Belgian style, is remarkable. Not my favorite beer but I have to admire the craftsmanship.
