A Thorny One
3.8% Bitter
Making variations on simple beer styles is always a lot of fun. We have made 6 or 7 bitters over the last year and a half and have continuously explored different malts, hops and yeasts while staying true to the style. This time we have used a blend of two caramelized malts to achieve both the caramel flavours but also to contribute some of the maltier biscuit notes. German Carabohemian achieves the latter. It carries caramel malt flavours but it is not overly sweet and has plenty of biscuit and bready notes with an ever so slight toasty quality. With a base of Maris Otter and flaked wheat and hopped solely with Fuggles, this should please all lovers of this low abv beer style.

Pitkästä aikaa Caragea, Bitter kyseessä. Tuoksu on kevyesti greippinen ja keksisen maltainen. Maussa mukavan pehmeän maltainen alku, keksistä ja karamellimaltaista. Jälkimaussa kevyesti kuivaavaa katkeroa, sekä viipyilevä miellyttävän "pähkinäinen" brittiolutmaisuus. Kevyistä volteista huolimatta tähän on saatu ladattua mukavasti makua kyllä. Silti todella helppo juotava kuten pitää ollakin, onnistuminen Espanjan suunnalta 👍

English Bitter is a kind of old-school beerstyle that I should definitely drink more frequently. This is a thorny one, at least by the name. The pour is cloudy copper. A small-bubbled creamy head adorns the top up to two fingers. Looks yummy. The retention is fairly short as the lacing bursts bubble by bubble. Caramel malt is obvious in the scent, somewhat biscuity, even a tad cerealy. There's also a fruity side which I interpret as dried apricot and faint raisin. The hops decide to keep shy, only a faint resinous hint can be spotted. Gives good promises. The gustatory profile balances the malty and hoppy segments attractively. Caramel malt, indeed, is prominent on the tongue. Toasty, biscuity, crackery. The hoppy element is bolder and still resinous. Dried apricot and grapefruit are the fruity parameters. The body is light to light-medium. It's superb given the low ABV. The finish bends the crispness with soft flavors. Hillside, slip and slide; feel the pain, it's no surprise; look out, look out; thorn will be the aftertaste. The mouthfeel is light, soft, crisp and smooth. Old-school for sure. Flavorful. Dryness is identifiable but modest. All in all, a quaffable Spanish interpretation of the style.

Ripauksenverran vaaleaa vaahtoa kirkkaan meripihkanvärisen läpinäkyvän oluen yllä joka tuoksuu kuivan hedelmäisen katkerahkon hedelmäisen lupsakalta ja maistuu kuivan rapsahtavan kepeän lempeältä, silleen kolme bojoo. PE: 31/01/24.
