My first 0% IBU beer and a DDH version. Bright amber brew with zero head retention, it gives off aromas of tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple and a little bubblegum all of which are attributed to Citra and Mosaic. It's smooth in the mouth with a seemingly typical The Veil level of carbonation. 0% IBU is zero bitterness, created to dispel the link between strong hoppiness with bitterness. With that in mind I feel like most NEIPAs I've had must have been close to 0% IBU themselves. This brew is very very hoppy, like hop purée but with a dry-like finish. Not dry like a lager or blonde as this beer has continuous resinous hop. It's not a pine forest finish though just concentrated hop. This beer is hefty via is saturated nature but lacking in fruity and juicy flavour. That said, tangerine is strong from the Citra and pineapple from Mosaic is fighting to break through the green hop taste. Like the previous beer I reviewed, this one again is for the raw hop tasting lover as opposed to juice bomb lovers. It's a strong IPA in that regard and it's 6.9% ABV adds to this brews impact, though not overtly alcoholic. It's a good beer of artisan quality but not the most mouthwatering and luscious. Instead it is a rich and explicit expression of hops. It's like having a really strong tea that's stewed and so has a dry, tannin heavy finish. It does grow on you however, as hops are obviously what we love really, otherwise one could just drink actual fruit juice! Whilst your not gulping it down like a sweet pineapple juice you can take large sips of hop concentrate and remind yourself what craft beer is all about! I praise the DDH excessive hop use but this brew doesn't prove or disprove anything for me, probably as I've not linked hoppiness with bitterness. That's something I'd link to an English bitter or a west coast IPA. The never ending lingering hop taste left behind could make you say it's still bitter, but maybe that's the point. It's not bitter, think more of tannin.
