A beer sent back from Texas for me to enjoy. It's a New York Stout. Got a big endorsement from my son-in-law. Out of the can this was dark and heavy. Very short head, the darkest chocolate brown I've ever seen, quickly disappeared. Aroma of sweet maple syrup. Texture is heavy and full of flavor while still not being sticky or syrupy. Flavors come at you hard and fast. Maple syrup, raw vanilla extract, some peppery notes, and going toward the finish the cinnamon appears. Description on the can was, surprisingly, totally accurate. Lava cake seems inaccurate. I've had lava cake and it was made with devil's chocolate cake and heavy chocolate hard frosting. No chocolate in this. The flavors, while individual, never fight each other. A fabulous blend while somehow staying separate. Nowhere does the 12.5% alcohol show itself. This is a fabulous dessert Stout. Impossible to gulp down a mixture this strong and heavy. This brew, in a pint can, at 12.5%, flavors so apparent, so clean and crisp, so commanding of the palate, that it makes for a perfect ending of the evening. Really good job New York.
