Yay!! It's Friday! Time to have a Duo with my daughter and my son-in-law in Texas. Congratulations on this being his 1400th review. They chose a Texas brewery, 903 Brewers, and a powerful dessert stout. It's feast or famine with 903.
Coming out of the can, this is an ugly beer. Brown, murky, light brown and somewhat translucent. Oh my! Aroma is of strawberries and some small whiffs of chocolate., Very strong flavor of a strawberry liqueur. Not a fresh strawberry, one of those very sweet candied fruits in chocolate boxes. Add a strong shot of vanilla extract with a fleeting memory of coffee before the finish. This finish drops everything before it and relinquishes to a creamy milk chocolate. Only a mild alcohol is consistent from first to last.
While a lot of beers change as you enjoy them, this one is surprisingly consistent. First sip to the last sip, it never changed. Cold at the first, let it warm in the glass, still the same. That, in itself, is different. As the glass reaches its last remaining liquid, the particulates and sludge at the bottom were unsettling. But I swallowed them down anyway.
For taste and flavor alone, this is an enjoyable beer. Close your eyes, don't look at it. Not bad, 903. Maybe someday you will use real ingredients but this is one of your best endeavors.
