Late night after-sauna nightcap. This can well be my first Basque beer although I didn't check carefully my Spanish beers. Impenetrable, deep dark brown beer with timid carbonation creates a restrained, cappuccino-colored head that just covers the top and then dissipates to a frazil-icy lacing. The beer invites me to sniff: bitter black coffee, cacao nibs and dark chocolate enter my olfactory sphere in small amounts. Distant caramel, a bit of strawberry jam and biscuit dough add their nuances to the concoction. The taste receptors like the light-sourish cocktail of raw chocolate, cacao powder and faintly roasted coffee beans. The palate sends also fruity and berry-like vibes that continue the light-sour tradition; I'm getting especially pineapple, apricot and orange pulp from the fruit basket and strawberry and raspberry from the berry bucket. Transient hops pop up hastily. Overall, quite a tempting potpourri and relatively easy and gluggable. The body is medium-full to full. The dark chocolatey direction becomes clearer and a tad dominant in the finish. Cacao nibs join the party. An intriguing whisky barrel nuance surprises me as it spreads in every nook of my mouth. Both the strawberry and raspberry still loom behind the corner. The hoppy touch is though absent. The aftertaste asks the barista to slowly prepare a chocolate coffee for the tastebuds. The mouthfeel is medium-full, really modestly tart and slightly lip-glueing. It's also relatively smooth, balanced, autumnal as well as quaffable.
