Back home from a music theater show 🎙️🎸🎭 This is a Tripel with kumquat, mango and chili. So I know what to expect. Not sure, though, if a Tripel makes a fertile soil for such flavorings. I'll see it soon.
The appearance is semiclear copper. The restrained carbonation offers a creamy head that falls short of one finger and portrays a set of cute bubbles here and there. The head shrinks to a thin lacing and leaves a thick ornament on the glass.
Mandarin, semisweet malt, fresh apricot, a bit of sugar and faint chili find my nose. Really nice.
Canned mandarin, kumquat, apricot, malt and moderate chili land on my tastebuds now. The hoppy side is obvious, resinous and slightly piney. An alcoholic tang looms in the shadows. Overall, the package is overripe and canned fruity, somewhat closed.
The body is medium. The finish is slightly tangy, marginally alcoholic and very canned fruity. The chili diminishes significantly in the end. Freshness is not the asset of this beer. People want to keep you in the dark; you're always a mess but you're always a step ahead of the aftertaste; watch out for piranhas; there's always piranhas.
The mouthfeel is medium, overripe, closed, musty and modestly spicy. It's also tangy and messy, as if lacking direction. First of all, the adjuncts don't play well together. Secondly, they don't really tango with the style. The medley is a confusion. Clearly a miss.
