Our English-American hybrid barley wine has a dark amber color, full body, high residual malty sweetness and caramel/toffee aroma and flavor. The complexity of alcohols and fruity-ester characters are counterbalanced by assertive American citrus hop bitterness and extraordinary alcohol content. English varietal hop aroma and flavor are at high levels.

Barleywine #95 (one of my favourite beer styles. But unfortunately so hard to find, especially here in Finland)
Best before 31.12.2023
Mahogany-coloured beer with a smooth, beige head. Light texture: 4,25/5
The nose is fruity, plums. Caramel sweetness, bready maltiness. Somewhat shallow: 3,5/5
Mouthfeel is full, with high bitterness, and some alcohol. Nice and leans much towards the American style than an English one: 4,25/5
The taste has plenty of malty/bready flavour in it. Also heavy dose of ripped fruits, grapefruit and plum. After is mild, a bit dry and lingering: 11/15
Otherwise a solid beer but for my liking, way too easy for a big Barleywine. Personally, I'm looking for more complex, slow-sipping beers. To me, this seems more like an American Strong Ale than a Barleywine. And indeed the beer has much more American character than English. Decent, tasty but easily forgettable: 14,5/20

Med mindre spritsmak så hade den varit klart bättre men godkänd iaf.
