Using the glass I got at the Abita brewery. Great brewery to visit. Caught me totally off guard that this is a Doppelbock. All I have had before were dark.
Medium high off-white head, short-lived. Effervescence continues in the clear deep yellow color. Has sweet candied strawberry and a corn cereal aroma. Texture is both soft and smooth. Turns very dry. Flavor starts out very sweet and with a strawberry fruit slowly adding a moderately bitter lemon peel. The finish enables a sour lemon to become dominant over the strawberry. All of this, from start through finish, is very dry.
I would give this high marks as a fruit beer or even possibly a sour, although it's not all that sour. But I don't seem to understand this being a doppelbock. It's a fun beer, and I like it, but if I'm in the mood for a doppelbock, I'm not reaching for this.
