Cucumber-Lime Vitamin, Finland
4.2
The third and last homebrewed Fruited Sour Ale has cucumber and lime as base fruits as well as fresh coriander leaves as seasoning. I consider this the most unique one of these three, therefore, I'm really looking forward to this beer! Fully foggy, deep orange beer, looks pretty much like orange juice. Polite, although not introvert carbonation creates a clean white, velvety head of one finger. Retention is shorter than in the other two beers as the surface is soon decorated by a hair-thin lace ring only. The scent is attractive: loads of fresh cucumber and a reasonable spoonful of pickle. One can't be misguided here! Lime is subtle but identifiable. And again, passionfruit plays its supportive role without asking any questions. Coriander leaves merge with a good pinch of salt although there's no salt in the beer. I'm happy that especially the cucumber is so intensive in the fragrance, I was afraid that it might be rather limited because of its high water content. 🧡🧡🧡 Cucumber comes through also on the tongue. Not as massively as to the nose but quite distinctly anyway. Passionfruit brings in sourness, actually fairly much. The tastebuds like the modest salt but pickle I don't find now. Coriander leaf gives a remote Oriental vibe but is otherwise significantly subdued. Oh my! Love the package! 🧡🧡🧡 The body is light. This beer has also a bit lower ABV than the other two but still clocks 6.2 %. The finish is passionfruity with a lemony backbone. Cucumber decides to go underground at this stage. The aftertaste prepares piquant pickle and loves the final outcome. The mouthfeel is light, zesty, medium-tart, moderately puckering and acidic. It's balanced, very gulpable and absolutely unique. Zippy as well. I can imagine that this can be divisive as some people may dislike the flavor of cucumber in beer but I think it goes well there. Successful in my opinion.
