Nightcap. ABV is on the high side: 14 %.
Opaque, jet black beer with tame carbonation sets a tawny, silky head that barely reaches half a finger. A beautiful lace ring and haze adorn the top for much longer, evidencing of fairly long retention.
My nose gets prepared for an olfactory triumph. Nevertheless, no victory march to be observed. Rather, the scent shies away and leaves only small amendments of cacao nibs and dark chocolate. That's it.
The tastebuds fall first in nirvana because of the copious dark chocolate and bags of cacao nibs. Ample booze gives a warming sensation on the tongue. It's like whisky barrel aged although this is not barrel aged as far as I've understood. Whisky, in particular single malt Scotch, is what I experience here. No peat, no smoke, but strong oak barrel. In addition, vanilla, dark malt and a drop of molasses should be added to the list.
The body is robust. Alcohol grows even more ample in the finish. Dark malt is hefty, escorted by raw cacao powder. Nothing else. The aftertaste is leaving Antwerp, ridin' on the train.
The mouthfeel is intense, full, boozy and extraordinarily deep. It's neatly warming and barrel aged. Or that's how I feel it. Flavorful, yet simple and unlayered.
