Midnight Magick
0.0% Imperial Stout
The fine folks at Voodoo Brewery in Meadville, PA produce some of the best barrel aged stouts in the world so when they came to Greeley for the inaugural WeldWerks Invitational Festival back in June of 2018, we knew we needed to get some of their Magick into our oak casks. Aged for 26 months in a blend of freshly emptied 7-10 year-old bourbon barrels and apple brandy barrels, the resulting collaboration is a bold, complex and nuanced Imperial Stout that perfectly expresses both breweries' unique approach to all things oak and age.

BEER: Midnight Magick BREWERY: WeldWerks Brewing Co. x Voodoo Brewery BEER STYLE: Imperial Stout (Bourbon + Apple Brandy BA) COUNTRY: USA ABV.: N/A COLOUR (EBC): Pitch Black (100.0) BITTERS (EBU/IBU): - AROMA: Deep. Barreled. Unique. HEAD: Pretty much nonexistent. GREY’S VIEW Imperial Stout Blend aged in Bourbon Barrels and Apple Brandy Barrels. It’s like ryebread soaked in Pinot Noir grapes. And evolving from there. Taste offers quite wet ryebread, deeply soaked Pinot Noir feel, some chocolates, malts and maybe the purest of rosewater too. Vanilla is remote and classicly stylish distant with slight red in it cheeks. Adorable. Body is almost light. Damn yeah. Red wine feel is there. Carbonation is also there, but it doesn’t really take any role in this dance. It’s lovely to see how the Pinot Noir feel blends into the chocolates. Absolutely stylish and a bit unique too. Respectful. Aftertaste has some buttermilk (woot!? Yeap!), ryebread and still that lovely softness from Pinot Noir. OTHER NOTES: Ok. I’m happy to open this in a sunny summer evening at my property. It brings a lot of memories from my youth this one. Mostly from France, but also other parts of Europe. Lovely stuff to enjoy slowly. Lovely stuff. Quite damn solid blend of perfections, I’d say.
