This is an excellent beer to start my two-week stay in the summer cottage: next week I'm gonna work here remotely, the following week is the first short batch of my summer vacation. Then I'll return home for one work week and, finally, at the turn of the month, I'll start my second longer batch of the summer vacation. 🍺
I've Got Friends In The Music Business is a series whose first edition was tasty and the two B.A. Blends stunning. I missed Batch #2 completely. Now I'll explore Batch #3.
Opaque, matte black beer with obedient carbonation lays a moussy, fawn head that fails to reach one finger's height. The foamy cap adorns the top as a reasonable lace ring for substantially long.
The can promises cacao, chili and vanilla — this is a "Mexican Imperial Stout". Dark chocolate and cacao nibs, indeed, don't go unnoticed. Chili can also be identified in the air, it's somewhat fruity dryish as if dried habanero powder. Moreover, I can pick mudcake, faint vanilla and a tiny pinch of brown sugar. Nice but not mindblowing.
The taste improves to some extent. The chocolatey flavors are rather powerful. Cacao is raw. Chili is neatly noticeable, not abundant, nor modest. I'm getting... ok... I'm imagining a remote smoky twist somewhere in the shadows. Is the chili smoked? Vanilla is really timid, so are the hops, whereas the malty side waves the flag.
The body can be classified as medium-full. At 13 %, it doesn't impress me much. The finish is spicy; the chili is quite dry and has lost its both fruity and smoky nuances. Chocolate is considerably dark and a tad raw. The hoppy sphere intensifies several degrees in the finish. The aftertaste hears a whisper but sees nobody and is sure that Tepoztēcatl is calling it.
The mouthfeel is strong, rather deep but fairly simple. It's seductively spicy and warming as well as adjuncted. Furthermore, the mouthfeel is lip-glueing and mouthcoating, why not also desserty.
I like the chili that doesn't shy away. On the other hand, this is relatively straighforward and falls short of my earlier experiences, especially those of the B.A. Blends. Good as it is though.
