The Royal George was the largest warship on Lake Ontario in November 1812. Intercepted by an American squadron of seven ships, she sped to Kingston harbour and, with help from shore batteries, resisted an attack by the American forces. This naval engagement was the only action fought at Kingston during the War of 1812.
