Three times the malt bill and five times the hops of a normal strength beer, this Barleywine tests the limits of our brewhouse and our backs! But the real struggle is in getting this massive brew to completely ferment, a true test of our skill and the vigor of our yeast. Consisting of 98% Pale Malt (with a bag of CaraMunch thrown in for color) and just one hop variety, Columbus, this beer showcases these two basic ingredients in their most concentrated state.
Enjoy this very special beer young, but save a few bottles for future winters. Enjoy not too cold, say about 13C! Barleywine will age indefinitely, like wine; thus the name.

I approach nervously as I'm not a big fan of Barley wine style beer. But who could pass up that label. Driftwood brewery has some best labels around this area.
It pours a beautiful gold with a huge active soap bubble head that quickly falls back into itself, leaving a thin layer of bubbles.
I am surprised that I can immediately smell fruity tropical hops suggestive of mango or passion fruit, pine, and citrus. I can get a sense of malt aroma under it but it's hard to tell what it offers with the hops laying so heavily on top. I'm also a little shocked that there is no boozy nose to it with 11%.
Okay, I'm confused. In my limited experience this doesn't taste or behave like a barley wine at all.
It's soft in the mouth, velvety. It has some sweet caramel, toffee, and grainy biscuit malt flavours but they are buried under a huge helping of piney, citrus, and fruity tropical hops that bring a fair but not carried away bitterness. Full bodied and wonderful.
There is very little alcohol aroma or warmth in the mouth, but it sure smacks you upside the haircut. It has a sweet lingering after taste that hold the hops and some alcohol. I thinking going to get a bottle to set away for a year or two.
This is definitely a big bad ass beer.
Tasty and tipsy. Whooo buddy.🤘
*UPDATE...
I let it warm up substantially and the malt, sweetness, and alcohol really break through. The hops subside drastically and the whole profile changes into more what I think of as a barley wine. A great beer.
