A nice dark IPA, not black but a dark deep red.
Strong pine and fruity hops are reaching as the head still builds to a finger and a half. It eventually settles into a 3 millimeter layer leaving sporadic lacing.
When eventually I take an inhale, the aromas are strong pine, mango, passion fruit, tropical fruit, and white wine.
After a brief rest, the hops seem to sink back into the beer and malt aromas come forward. Singed caramel, dried fruit, plum, doughy bread, and an oaky bourbon barrel smell are as strong as the hops were initially. A quick swirl in the glass releases the hops again.
First sip is like a solid kick in the mouth. Strong bitter pine and raw lupulin. After a couple mouthfulls the bitterness seems to subside and some of the fruitiness from the hops become apparent. There are some solid strong malt flavours struggling to break through the hops. They are as described in the aromas but without the bourbon barrel. Scorched caramel, dark doughy bread, and dried fruit. Medium full body and silky, but the hops really rough it up.
