Erittäin hyvä viski- ja porttituunattu stoutti. Pieni öljyisyyden ja vetisyyden alavireinen sivuspiraali vie pisteen kymmenyksen muuten hyvältä suoritumselta.

Das Churchwarden ist ein Imperial Stout gereift in verschiedenen Fässern, unter anderem von japanischem Whiskey. Das macht Laune! Nach einer zischenden Eröffnung fließt ein dicker, samtiger, tiefschwarzer Sud ins Trinkgefäß. Bedeckt wird das Getränk von einer haselnussbraunen Krone, die nach ein paar Minuten zu einem schlanken Ring auf der Oberfläche zurückgeht. Die Nase ist kurz verwirrt, denn sie sondiert irgendetwas zwischen Nutella und Sauerkirschen. Ist aber interessant! Der Zunge dürstet es nach dem ersten Schluck. Und der kommt prompt: cremig und sanft fließt es die Kehle hinab. Es ist vordergründig schokoladig und nussig, aber dahinter tatsächlich kirschsauer. Ein paar Trauben kann ich auch ausmachen, nebst holzigen Noten aus den Fässern. Ungewöhnliche Mischung, aber tolle Sache! Der Nachgeschmack wird von Säure dominiert und ist daher sicher nicht jedermanns Sache.

New beer in Pint Please. Canned on 8.6.2020 Temperature: +14 C Black colored beer with a soft-looking even head. Retention of the head is very good and texture quite light: 4,25/5 The scent gives you plenty of barrel. Especially Port and that neat Japanese whiskey is clearly there. 3rd barrel creates some slightly peated vibes in the aroma. Pretty good, but not very intense. Touch of roasted coffee and soft chocolate makes up the rest of the scent: 3,75/5 Mouthfeel stays a bit too thin for my liking. Because of the light body, the barrel feels sharp and alcohol has a slightly boozy character. Despite the light body, the beer still has some depth in it: 3,5/5 The taste, like the scent, is dominated by the barrels. But unlike the aroma, there’s hard to pick any specific flavors. The taste is more a messy mix up of barrels with woody/oaky flavor being the strongest. Fruity sweetness and overall "dark" flavor is the backbone of the beer: 10,75/15 Pretty good beer once again from Frontaal. But this brewery seems to always be not-quite-there, making better than average beers but falls up short for the big boys league... This beer has everything a good Imperial Stout should have, despite the mouthfeel being too light, but the "that something" final touch is missing: 14,25/20 =36,5/50
