Happy Drink Beer Day! This special day is always celebrated on 28 September, a few days after the birthday of Arthur Guinness, the founder of the famed Guinness Brewery in Dublin. Why exactly on this particular date? Well, I don't know. Just happens to be there. A good excuse to enjoy a beer (if anybody here needs an excuse to drink beer anyway). 😆🍻
This IPA is dressed in transparent amber. The long-lasting carbonation brings a creamy silky head on the top. One finger is the measure. The retention is, indeed, long as one can conclude. A moussy lacing adorns the surface longer.
Ripe fruits and resin find their way to my nose: ripe apricot, some of it dried, pine needles and especially resin. Grapefruit peel and pith should be included in the list, too.
The taste identity is characterized by a relatively high IBU number. No question about it. Pine and resin dominate. Bowls of grapefruit peel and pith, some grass as well as mango and dried apricot are also detectable. Old-school as we know it.
The body is bigger than I expect: maybe even medium-full. Nice work! The finish is a precise copy of the actual taste. It doesn't matter when, it doesn't matter how; all that matters is I'm together with the aftertaste; let's put it all in place, make it go kapow.
The mouthfeel is medium-full, crisp, resinous, piney, dry and drying. Very classical. Like a time warp to the era before NEIPAs and Smooth Sours. Does the job with my blue cheese burger.
