This was only bottled last month and has a 5 year shelf life. It was supposed to be stashed for a while but I’ve had one of those days and just needed a beer. As I’ve never had a dark boutilliers before I thought I’d give it a go fresh. I was expecting an overly sweet kind of stout but it’s actually quite mellow and has a nice bitter bite to it. Mouthfeel is soft and rounded. The three additions all compliment each other and not one is overpowering or more prominent. I don’t think I’ve ever said that before about a beer that had tonka beans in it. They usually steal the show. Not boozy at all which is a slight drawback, but it doesn’t detract from the overall enjoyment.
