Doomsday Hound
9.5% Imperial Stout
New Realm Brewing Company’s viciously flavorful Russian Imperial Stout has broken its chains once again and is ready to unleash its wrath for a third time. This beast is big (9.5%) with a deep black color and a thick brown foamy head. It sinks its teeth into you upon the first sip, with intense, full body, roasted coffee and cocoa flavors.

I enjoyed this at The Foundry and Growler Bar almost 4 years ago so I bought a can and put it in the beer celler. For some reason I decided to try it again today. I worked hard and I'm exhausted and I deserve this and some Stanley Cup on TV. Opaque brown color, deep tan head that recedes. Super tiny bubbles that coat the inside of the class. Aroma belies the 9.5% alcohol, seems stronger, perhaps the aging, heavy roasted malt, earthy. Flavor presents a heavy feel on a powerful yet mildly roasted malt, low effervescence, dry on the tongue, semi-sweet, again earthy, toasted caramel in the background. As a finish arrives, I get traces of dark cocoa and the alcohol intensifies, oddly, only affecting the mouth. This has been in the can now for 4 years so I did not read my previous review because I did not want it to skew my taste buds. I'll describe it as hardy, robust, full of body with an undisguised but not overwhelming alcohol presence. Not quite chewy but it will definitely fill you. If they are still brewing this, I would buy another. P.S. I miss the Thrashers 🏒

Sitting outside at the Foundry Growler bar observing quarantine rules. Came in a one pint can. Not a very high head, color was opaque dark brown. Aroma has a little chocolate. Mouthfeel is a little thick, very smooth and creamy, not much carbonation. Alcohol presents a warm feeling. Very sweet with full chocolate and coffee notes. Powerful flavor. Not much bitterness. Flavor is consistent right through the finish. Delicious and I recommend it.
