Blacksmith Smoked Porter
6.5% Porter
Flavour Profile: Brawny complex malt. Notes of dark chocolate, dark roast with burnt espresso edges, hints of maple and mellow, smoke peat. Pairing: Pairs well with stews, steak, venison, wild game and rabbit. Also dark chocolates and sweet jams. "Blacksmith Smoked Porter... is almost opaque black, with faint ruby coloured tinges visible when held towards light. The light tan head is rather frothy and leaves a few streaks of lace before settling as a thin collar. Aromas of dark fruit, chocolate, coffee, tobacco and damp wood come through, especially as the ale warms. "The taste is very malt forward with flavours of roasted grain, chocolate and cherry accented by an assertive bitterness as well as wood and smoke notes that become noticeable in the finish. Blacksmith Smoked Porter is full-bodied, earthy and grainy with mild carbonation and oiliness. The aftertaste has grain and coffee notes.

Highly aromatic porter with strong wafts of chocolate and espresso. The texture feels a little watery for a porter and the acidity makes the finish a little harsh.

Wow. This beer paired with simple BBQ hamburgers is out of this world. The flavours play off each other and amplify everything. The hints of dark chocolate and maple wrap themselves around the tastebuds and allow the sweetness of the BBQ sauce to shine more than I've ever experienced. It didnt get all 5 stars because im not always eating BBQ....but I can change that. Wow.
