Boon Geuze Mariage Parfait has an alcohol content of 8%. It consists of 95% mild lambic, aged at least three years and specially reserved for this purpose, and 5% young lambic. The latter provides the fermentable sugars and wild yeasts. After mixing in a vessel of 25,000 litres, the wort (unfermented mixture) is filtered and chilled. If we are bottling, we bring it back to fermentation temperature. The bottles are placed in a climate-controlled space for the secondary fermentation. This is followed by maturing at low temperature for at least 6 months. Want to know the bottling date? Simply subtract 20 years from the “best before” date!
The soft, mildly sour berry taste, harmonises with the oak barrels’ aromas in which Geuze Mariage Parfait has ripen. The body speaks of vanilla followed by a bitter aftertaste of cloves that becomes increasingly intense. Sublime.

Muss man mögen.

Pretty, orange color. Cloudy beer despite I left the sediment in the bottle. Tall, white head shrinks quite fast but then stops and the half a centimeter layer seems to last forever on top of the beer: 4,75/5
Notes of lime and lemon with green apple and much milder vanilla and strong oak character. There interesting spicy funkiness whatever that means... Hard to describe it any better. When the beer is warmer, a leathery aroma joins in. Also dry grainy hues. Not the most balanced Geuze. This leans a lot towards the sour notes of citrus fruits and dry oak plus grain: 4/5
Mouthfeel is sour, round, slightly alcoholic with high carbonation. Surprisingly noticeably alcohol presence. I'd like it to be lighter: 3,5/5
Taste has a strong lime flavor with alcohol, green apple, fruity funkiness, and oak. Taste is more balanced than the scent with less sourness but on the other hand, the alcohol flavor just feels inappropriate to the beer's flavor profile: 10,75/15
In my opinion, based on this beer Geuzes don't benefit from the high alcohol content. It just takes too much control and pushes down the complexity the Geuze should have... Other than the high alcohol flavor, all Boon's Lambics seems to be fairly similar, and dare I say boring compared to ones brewed by 3Fontein or Cantillon... Pretty average Geuze overall: 13,5/20
