Impenetrable, very deep dark brown beer with timid carbonation unleashes a light tan, small-bubbled head that builds itself up to one finger. The foamy pillow loses slowly air and descends eventually to still. The glass is left untouched. The nose receives a coffeeish injection, a bit of raw cacao powder and a whisper of licorice. The fragrance is, generally speaking, rather limited and lacks complexity. The gustatory palette is significantly more powerful: I find strong bitter mocha, a generous slam of licorice and a roasted twist. I can also detect a small dollop of coarse woody Bourbon as well as raw cacao nibs. The palate is strong and relatively tangy. The body is medium to medium-full. The beer finishes with extraordinarily bitter raw cacao, licorice root, massively bitter mocha and roasted coffee beans. The aftertaste keeps the tastebuds hooked for quite some time. The mouthfeel is strong, sharp, rather tangy and woody. It's also quite thick, burned and astonishingly warming. Lacks complexity. Powerful but not a wow.
