Basically translucent but dark brown beer with a red hue and, hence, looks impenetrable. The brave carbonation builds a dense, cappuccino-colored head that rises one finger high. The foamy cap dissipates soon to a neat lace ring circling the surface. A few tiny spots remain on the wall of the glass. The fragrance is sweet malty and surprisingly nutty with a good amount of syrup, chocolatey enhancement and distant caramel. The taste profile is interesting: hefty sweet malt, bags of caramel, approachable sweet nut, a suggestion of dark chocolate and cacao nibs. I can also pick a small amendment of molasses, remnants of overripe sour cherry and a toffeeish hint among the gustatory elements. The hoppy whisper is extraordinarily shy but noticeable. The body is light-medium to medium. Unexpectedly robust. The beer finishes loads of medium-sweet malt, slightly bitter caramel, a tad molasses and the same unpredictable sour cherry as before. The hoppy front advances whereas the nutty side retreats to the background. The aftertaste signs Jingle Bells with the tastebuds in the middle of the fall for the duration of several strophes. The mouthfeel is autumnal or even wintry, satiating and only remotely crisp. It's clean and balanced and, thus, very gluggable.

En muistanutkaan/tiennyt että altbier voi olla näin hyvää.

Altbieriä lähikaupasta ja vieläpä tarjouksessa, kelpaa. Tuopissa mustanruskea, läpinäkymätön olut. Vaahto olematon. Tuoksu maltainen, paahteinen, pääsiäislimppua, vaniljaa. Maku kevyesti paahteinen, maltainen, hieman makea. Maukas talviolut, sokkotestissä laittaisin portteriksi.

Huh huh, maistoin sokkona enkä voinut uskoa että kotimaista altbieriä löytyy!
