Pipari Brown Ale, Finland

Translucent, dark brown beer with reasonable, short-lived carbonation creates a silky, cappuccino-colored head that exceeds one finger. The foamy lid dissolves gradually to a thin lacing on top. The retreating foam paints the glass with thick, jagged lace covering. The fragrance offers bitter gingerbread, accompanied by a suggestion of cardamom and faint nutmeg. The tongue receives an interesting mixture of bitter gingerbread and a relatively strong hoppy punch. I can also detect a bit of gingerbread dough and graham crackers as well as cardamom, clove and nutmeg. The body is light-medium. The beer finishes with grassy hops and a slightly piney twist, a tad bitter gingerbread, brown bread and a biscuity whisper. The aftertaste tickles the tastebuds for some time. The mouthfeel is slightly crisp, piney and even remotely tangy. It's also satiating, husky and intriguingly rustic.
