This one has been aged in Jamaican rum barrels which give it a distinct rum smell and flavor while still being balanced between chocolate, rum, toffee, malt and a substantial amount of alcohol.

Backlog jostain muutaman viikon takaa.
Darknightin rommi ba versio, pullotettu pari vuotta sitten.
Oikei kelpo barleywine, mutta jää hiukan yksipuoleisemmaksi kuin bourbon versio. Makea rommi hyvin mukana, muuten toisen version kanssa aika samankaltainen. Siitä kirjoittanut joskus tarkemmin.

It’s a Play-Off season in NHL and I’ve growth a habit of supporting Tampa Bay Lightning with testing one Rum Barreled brew during the run. So here we go!
BEER: Darknight Rum BA
BREWERY: Anderson’s Craft Beer
BEER STYLE: Barley Wine (Jamaican Rum BA)
COUNTRY: Estonia
ABV.: 15.3%
COLOUR (EBC): Cola Black (80.0)
BITTERS (EBU/IBU): -
AROMA: Almost room filling. Needs to breathe before tasting it. Slightly rummy and floral, but really stingy at first.
HEAD: Brown head with really fast being.
GREY’S VIEW
Ok, the aroma is still quite stingy, but I put my body to the game and try it anyhow.
First sip is promising. Giving lots of those Caribbean tobacco floral vibes to accompany the strong feel of chocolates and molasses. I also pick candy caramel and some dark berries too. But it’s a slow sipper for sure.
Body is thick and slow, with decent carbonation and boozy cloud hanging there over this all the time.
But then again. The barrels works so beautifully and the chocolate strenghtens them so nicely. Hard to say…
OTHER NOTES:
My salute beer to Tampa Bay Lightning and us Bolts having a deep run this year too!
Go Bolts! ⚡️

Magnifique !

Hop in my balcony has started to show signs of life after the winter. Yay, hopefully, I'm getting my very own hops to brew with! And some swans just flew over close by. Spring is here!
Let's celebrate with this one.

Black colored Barleywine with a small, light-brown head that disappears almost immediately. Only some bubbles are staying at the edges. Viscosity looks almost oily thick: 3,75/5
Rum aging comes through clearly with notes of brown sugar, darker fruits, licorice, and soft malty notes. The Bourbon version of this had lots and lots more complexity and depth. This is just too straightforward and sadly a bit dull: 3,5/5
Mouthfeel is certainly the kind of one you could expect the big Barleywine to be: full-bodied, warming, with high bitterness. The overall layerness is lacking once again but that doesn't really bother as much as it did with the aroma: 4,25/5
Taste has plenty of rum-like alcohol flavor, oak, brown sugar sweetness, dark fruits, and lightly roasted coffee maltiness: 11/15
Decent Barleywine. Not nearly as awesome as the Bourbon version was. This isn't as complex or tempting. Much more straightforward but not easy beer by any means as the rum-like alcohol is quite strong: 14/20
