Eimverk Bourbon Barrel Aged Porter, Iceland
3.0
Bryggjan Brugghús was recommended by a local craft beer bartender. We'll see what they can offer. The first beer of the flight pours murky, medium-black with a significantly shy, pale fawn lace ring that dies hastily away. The fragrance puts forward a generous amount of licorice and quite funky sour plum. The palate serves harsh Bourbon, relatively hefty sour plum, a tad licorice and tiny amendments of blackberry and sour cherry. The body is light-medium. The beer finishes with the same sour plum, blackberry, licorice and Bourbon as upfront. Even the proportions remain pretty much unchanged. The aftertaste lingers in the mouth over medium to long duration. The mouthfeel is tart and somewhat puckering, very fermented and hence funky, a bit medicinal as well as surprisingly light. Not a promising start for getting to know the brewery.
