The Big Top is back in town. Revisit the twisted circus and get reacquainted with the ringmaster in chief. And this time, the Clown King is ready with an encore that will leave you speechless. Barrels have been moved up the bill from sideshow act to the main arena, where they belong.
This American Barley Wine hits like a high striker thanks to ageing in whisky casks, adding layers of flavour on top of the running order of five malts and four different hops. Sweet dark fruit, caramel and toasted marshmallow lead to a smooth finish that lasts as long as the standing ovation.

Burns’ Night last night so I went digging in the crates and found a Speyside BA American Barleywine from Brewdog. This must be at least 3 years old, it’s been in the fridge since forever! Paired it with a dram of 10 year single malt from Glenmorangie, a Highland Whisky.
Stewed fruits, caramel and biscuit layer with a metered booziness. Oak is there but in the background, some spiciness too. As you’d expect bitterness is there but it’s not assertive. It’s mellow and citrus led, balanced by sweetness from the residual sugars. Full-bodied and not as complex as I’d have expected, some nuances may have dropped off due to the extended storage. Thought it’d be a sipper but was quite easy drinking, smooth and mellow overall.

Tynnyriä, bourbonia, kuivattuja hedelmiä on melko täydellinen paketti kyllä. Karkkimaista makeutta. Hyvin peittyy prosentit alle. Vähän loppuliu’ussa tulee esille.

Illan viimeisenä hitaana maltaisen toffeinen barley wine johon tynnyröinti on tuonut pehmeitä makuvivahteita vaniljan ja bourbonin muodossa. Tämä ei jätä kylmäksi kovemmillakaan pakkasilla.
