Let's leave the industrial beers for a while and concentrate on the very local craft beer from Sabie. Relatively hazy, gold beer with abrupt, short-lived carbonation unleashes a silky, off-white head that barely reaches one finger. The foamy cap descends rather rapidly to a neat lacing on top. The withdrawing foam paints the glass with a few diagonal splashes on the wall of the glass. The olfactory provision includes distinct wheat malt, loads of lemon pulp and a tad zesty grapefruit. I can also detect a small amount of toast, faint pineapple and significantly remote banana. The palate portrays substantially fruity and somewhat bittercrisp lemon peel, a decent dollop of lemon zest and slightly stuffy wheat malt. Yeast is somewhat disturbing. A tiny heap of wheat flour, some toast and distant bitter orange peel accompany in the immediate proximity. The body is rather skinny. The beer finishes with medium-strong lemon peel and a tad lemon pulp, all embedded in recognizeable stuffy wheat malt. A yeasty aroma follows later. The aftertaste teases the tastebuds for a short to medium time. The mouthfeel is watery, slightly crisp and rather refreshing. It's also at the same time a bit musty and uninspiring. Not a winner from this local brewery.
