Droptop Chardonnay Brut IPA, New Zealand
4.3
Straight from the can to accompany bbq food. The fragrance puts forward medium-strong lemon pulp and a good amount of passionfruit, accompanied by a tiny injection of sparkling wine. The palate allows one to experience juicy lemon pulp, a tad passionfruit and identifiable sour guava, followed by raw green grapes and a tiny injection of semidry white wine. The light-bodied beer finishes with lemon zest, green grapes and sparkling wine, strengthened by a pinch of bitter yeast. The aftertaste has a medium length. The mouthfeel is really juicy, a bit tart, slightly crisp, dry and faintly vinous. A fairly easy Brut IPA which is not so brut. My conclusion is that Australia is relatively conservative when it comes to beers whereas New Zealand seems to be much more adventurous and ready to try a broader variety of beer styles. By saying this, I obviously have to go to New Zealand one day. Is this a promise? Maybe...
