This is an interesting Australian beer among so many pale lagers, IPAs and Australian or tropical pale ales: a coffee stout of 9.0 %.
The beer colors impenetrable, deep dark brown to black like espresso. Even the head resembles the crema of a good Italian espresso: milk-chocolatey, mousse-like cotton layer that initially elevates up to one finger and settles slowly down to a thin lacing on top. The withdrawing foam paints the glass with thick coverings.
The nose falls in nirvana due to the overwhelmingly thick and delicious package of hefty espresso, masses of dark chocolate and bags of cocoa nibs. I imagine additionally a silent whisper of delicate natural vanilla in the beautiful fragrance although I assume that vanilla is not among the ingredients.
The tongue waits impatiently its turn. The first sip opens the Gates of Heaven: a huge load of dark chocolate flavored espresso fills every nook of the mouth. Cocoa nibs are massive, followed by a generous amount of raw cocoa powder. Vanilla is still hanging on the edge, not sure if it's there or if it's just an illusion. The gustatory experience is really attractive and rewarding, very thick and full but still beautifully balanced. The ABV of 9.0 % is fully camouflaged.
The body is truly robust, which should come as no surprise. The beer finishes with slightly more bitter raw chocolate, overstrong mocha, bags of cocoa nibs and a smaller amount of fresh-ground coffee beans. The aftertaste keeps the tastebuds happy for a considerably long time.
The mouthfeel is substantially full, truly round and relatively strong. It's not very complex but heavily thick, colossally oily and rather creamy which more than compensate for the non-multidimensionality. Furthermore, the beer is somewhat lip-glueing and mouthcoating.
This beer is crazily tasty! It's the best Australian beer so far on my list. Well done, Dainton!
