Opaque, black beer with shy, short-lived carbonation creates a soft, tiny-bubbled, light fawn head that falls short of half a finger and settles soon down to a silky lace ring circling the surface.
The nose gets dark malt, a tad molasses, a bit of malt extract and a strong roasty aroma.
The taste is strong, somewhat dry but also interestingly relatively sweet: massive salty licorice, hefty dry black malt, a tad cough syrup and faint tar.
The body is light-medium. The beer finishes with dominant sweet licorice, loads of roasted black malt and a small dollop of molasses. I also find some aniseed and a big spoonful of cough syrup. The aftertaste has a medium to long duration.
The mouthfeel is strong, a bit sappy, relatively roasty as well as nicely soft and smooth.
