Permon Pumpkin Ale, Czech Republic
3.8
Flight 1/4 Semihazy, deep amber beer flows from tap. Regular, sustained carbonation builds a pure white, silky head that climbs up to one finger and settles slowly down to a thin lace ring on top. The retreating foam leaves thick coverings on the wall of the glass. The fragrance puts forward sweet pumpkin jam, a tad banana, some more distant mango and a bit of cantaloupe. The sweetness of the scent intensifies when the beer is warming. The tongue receives surprisingly bitter pumpkin pie with a sweet twist though, accompanied by fermented peach. The taste is also light-hoppy and remotely spicy, perhaps peppery. The medium-bodied beer finishes with spicy, hoppy, bitter pumpkin, a faint piney nuance and distant dry hops. The aftertaste lingers on tongue for quite long. The mouthfeel is soft and smooth but also light-crisp, a bit tangy, somewhat funky and neatly autumnal. Quite tasty for a Pumpkin Ale.
