Muddy, deep dark yellow beer with moderate carbonation of medium duration produces a less than one finger, cream-white, silky head. The retreating foam settles down gradually to a neat silky lacing on top without leaving any traces on the glass.
The scent allows aromas of passionfruit and very faint blackpepper to emanate to the nostrils. The peppery note is a mere whisper but still depictable, especially if one knows what to look for. The beer has been seasoned with Timut pepper from Nepal which gives the fragrance a truly interesting twist as if inhaling fine-smashed blackpepper powder.
The palate unlocks relatively sour passionfruit, lemon zest and lemon peel, a tad grapefruit, a suggestion of raw gooseberry and an invisible peppery note. Bitter wheat flour accompanies next to the sour fruit.
The body is light to light-medium. The finish puts forward significantly sour, relatively puckering lemon and passionfruit that hasn't yet become ripe enough to be eaten. Bitter wheat and a bit of yeast follow from behind. The whole package fades milder over quite a long period.
The mouthfeel is rather tart and somewhat puckering, medium-light, extraordinarily fresh, relatively tropical and very faintly spicy. Overall, very interesting, stands positively out of the crowd.
Note: The barcode leads to "Session 1er Anniversaire La Cave à Bières" by Trencavel. It's interesting since the barcode is on a Swiss beer but gives a French beer in Pint Please.
