Still the most paradoxical and idiosyncratic of all beer styles, the Black Indian Pale Ale combines the hoppy characteristic of an IPA with the look of a dark beer.

Very interesting and supprisingly nice beer. Dark, complex, very close to a stout but very drinkable.

This beer style doesn't work for me. I'd rather have a real IPA or a Schwarzbier. Although it lacks the roasted malt taste the sweetness of the malts compete with the hops in a way that makes it a neither-here-nor-there drink.
